First check: compare the reading on your statement with (a) an up-to-date photo of your meter, (b) earlier supplied readings, (c) what's in the smart-meter portal. Common discrepancies: estimated reading despite a smart meter, electricity/gas readings swapped, decimal errors. Plan:

  1. take a photo with date-time stamp
  2. communicate the actual reading + photo via portal or letter
  3. demand a revised statement within 14 days
  4. on refusalformal dispute + Geschillencommissie. During dispute: pay only the undisputed portion.
