First check: compare the reading on your statement with (a) an up-to-date photo of your meter, (b) earlier supplied readings, (c) what's in the smart-meter portal. Common discrepancies: estimated reading despite a smart meter, electricity/gas readings swapped, decimal errors. Plan:
- take a photo with date-time stamp
- communicate the actual reading + photo via portal or letter
- demand a revised statement within 14 days
