Can my supplier estimate my meter reading instead of reading it?

With a smart meter, reading is technically standard — the supplier may NEVER estimate for your annual statement. With a traditional meter: the supplier asks for a reading each year (letter, email or portal). No reading supplied? Estimated consumption from historical data is allowed. But once you supply an actual reading (within reasonable time), you have a right to revision based on your actual reading. Payments or refunds then shift back to what was ACTUALLY used.
