What is the capacity tariff — and why pay it separately from consumption?
The capacity tariff is what your grid operator charges for the size of your connection — not for consumption. Higher with bigger connection (3×35A vs 3×25A).
Your energy bill shows grid + capacity charges on top of consumption. The capacity tariff is an annual fixed amount tied to your connection size: 1×25A (small), 3×25A (standard home), 3×35A (larger, EV+heat pump), 3×50A+ (commercial). Upsizing means structurally higher grid charges. ACM sets the rates annually. Downsizing your connection can lower the tariff — but it takes months and has one-off costs. If you overpaid (post-downsize): claim refund in writing within 6 weeks.
