Got a heat pump — what changes for your energy contract?

A heat pump shifts gas consumption to electricity — sometimes 3-5× higher annual use. Tariff, capacity, possible upgrade: explained.

What changes: (1) your electricity consumption rises sharply (full heat pump typically adds 3,000-7,000 kWh/year); (2) you may need a heavier connection (3×35A instead of 3×25A) — upgrade costs €350-€1,500 + monthly higher grid charges; (3) a dynamic tariff can pay off if your heat pump runs via energy management outside peak hours; (4) gas use drops — but you still pay gas fixed fees unless you actually disconnect (separate request). Tip: get an installation quote with Total Cost of Ownership including upgrade + tariff change, not just the unit price.
