Can my energy supplier disconnect me while I am on holiday?
Not automatically. The disconnection procedure requires repeated written contact attempts. Delivery during holidays can be procedurally invalid — giving you a defense.
The small-user disconnection rules require the supplier to (a) send a reminder, (b) a written notice with at least 14 days, (c) offer a payment plan, (d) refer to debt help. During your absence that procedure cannot have been validly followed if you had no chance to respond. Winter (Oct 1 — Apr 1) disconnection of vulnerable households is banned outright. On sudden disconnection during your absence: demand immediate reconnection via formal notice, claim damages for spoiled food/broken devices, and file complaints with GCE + ACM. Tip: for longer absences ask your supplier to flag absence-mode for collection communications.
