Can my energy supplier disconnect me without warning?
No. Disconnection requires written notice, a reasonable payment window, and — during winter — strict conditions. We explain the procedure.
Under the Energy Act 2024 + the small-user disconnection rules, before cut-off the supplier must: (1) send a payment reminder, (2) a written notice with at least 14 days, (3) offer a payment plan, (4) refer you to debt assistance on non-payment. During winter (Oct 1 – Apr 1) disconnection of households with young children or medical equipment is in principle prohibited, unless fraud. Disconnected without these steps?
