Can my energy supplier disconnect me without warning?
DIRECT ANSWER
No. Disconnection requires written notice, a reasonable payment window, and — during winter — strict conditions. We explain the procedure.

Under the Energy Act 2024 + the small-user disconnection rules, before cut-off the supplier must:
- send a payment reminder,
- a written notice with at least 14 days,
- offer a payment plan,
- refer you to debt assistance on non-payment. During winter (Oct 1Apr 1) disconnection of households with young children or medical equipment is in principle prohibited, unless fraud. Disconnected without these steps? Demand immediate reconnection via formal notice and file complaints with ACM AND Geschillencommissie Energie.
