Geschillencommissie Reizen — package-tour disputes
The Travel Disputes Committee is the independent body for package-tour disputes (TUI, Corendon, Sunweb, etc.). €52.50 filing cost. Binding advice.
The Geschillencommissie Reizen (part of Stichting Geschillencommissies Consumentenzaken) is the independent arbitration body for consumer-vs-tour-operator disputes. For package tours (TUI, Corendon, Sunweb, Prijsvrij, etc.) — not for standalone flights or hotels.
When can you go to it? Only after you have approached the tour operator yourself in writing and received a final position, or after 4 weeks with no response. You then have 1 year to file.
Costs: €52.50 filing fee (refunded if you win). No legal counsel required — application is in plain language.
Procedure: file online via degeschillencommissie.nl/reizen. Tour operator gets 4 weeks to respond. Hearing (phone or in-person) within ~3 months. Ruling within 6 months. Binding advice — both parties must comply with the ruling.
Maximum: €25,000 per case. Higher than that → cantonal court (small claims up to €25k) or district court.
Membership requirement: all SGR-certified tour operators are members. Non-members: direct to cantonal court.
Important distinction: for airline disputes go to the Geschillencommissie Luchtvaart (separate committee). For financial services (travel insurance): Kifid. For standalone hotel without package tour: cantonal court directly or via the OTA (Booking.com etc.).
