Move-out or new tenant — can someone take over my energy contract?
A contract is personal. Tenant or new-resident "takeover" doesn't legally exist — instead: you cancel, they sign a new contract on the same EAN.
Energy contracts are personal — transfer to another natural person is not possible. What IS possible: you terminate per move-out date (end meter reading), the new resident signs their own contract on the same EAN. Practically: communicate move-out date + reading at least 1 month ahead to your supplier; on moves within the Netherlands you can OFTEN take your contract to the new address if the supplier operates there (otherwise final statement + new contract). For shared rental with per-room meters: a master-EAN route exists via the grid operator. For landlords with all-in rent: separate Heat Act route possible for district heating.
