On the contract holder's death the energy contract ends automatically per death date (BW art. 7:5 + standard terms). Heirs or executor must notify the supplier as soon as possible + supply end reading. Three options:
- continue in heir's nameusually possible within 30 days with no termination fee
- terminate per death datefinal statement with reading at date of death
- vacancy (unoccupied)temporarily lower advance, fixed fees continue. NOT allowed: continued billing in the deceased's name AFTER date of death — that's a debt without legal ground. Terminate in writing with a copy of the death certificate; final statement within 6 weeks to the heir's IBAN.
