On the fitness floor (where people work out) camera surveillance is allowed under conditions — unlike in changing rooms (prohibited, see article). Requirements: (1) Concrete purpose — theft prevention, member safety, equipment damage prevention. Not "just in case". (2) DPIA required (Art. 35 — large-scale monitoring). (3) Clear signs at every entrance + reception + privacy statement on website. (4) Retention max 4 weeks (28-day AP guideline). (5) No audio recording — forfeit by Tw + GDPR. (6) No camera in changing rooms, toilets, showers (Sr 139f). (7) No camera on individual exercisers for profile analysis without consent. Face recognition systems (some Dutch chains experimented 2023-2024): explicitly prohibited without explicit consent (Art. 9 biometric data). AP investigation 2024 forced multiple chains to stop. Member rights: GDPR Art. 15 access to your footage (Schiphol ruling-style), Art. 21 objection on unjustified processing. On overstepping: report to Fitclub (Dutch fitness association) + AP complaint.
