🧱 How to dispose of construction waste in Amsterdam

Quick answer

DIY waste — rubble, plaster, tiles, wood — you deliver yourself to one of the 6 Recycling Points. Free up to 1 m³ per month for residents. Bigger jobs (1+ m³): rent a debris container for €100-250 per week.

Here is how

  1. 1
    Sort at the source
Wood, plaster, rubble, metal, mixed — keep separate. Recycling Points have separate containers per fraction. Faster in/out.
  2. 2
    Small volume → Recycling Point
Up to ~1 m³ free for residents. A car or cargo bike full = about a half-day's work. ID + proof of address required.
  3. 3
    Bigger job → container
Above 1 m³ or unwilling to drive? Debris container (construction firms or Renewi, Sita, Van Gansewinkel). Permit needed if it sits on the street.

Do / Do not

Do
  • Asbestos suspected? STOP — only by certified contractor, never yourself
  • Reusable wood (planks, beams, doors) separately on Marktplaats
  • More than 50 kg loose rubble: use bags, not loose — otherwise Recycling Point refuses
Do not
  • Construction waste may NOT go in the bulk-waste pickup — different route
  • Do not dump illegally in association or business containers
  • No paint residues in mixed construction waste — those are KCA (small chemical waste)

Or do something better

Most bulk waste still has life. Give or sell before throwing.

Marktplaats
Good planks, doors, tiles: often free pickup wins within 2 days. People wait for second-hand building material.
Local building reuse shop
Plak Amsterdam and other neighborhood reuse shops accept working materials gladly.
Insulation recycling
Stone wool or glass wool: special recycle route via suppliers, not in construction waste.

Frequently asked questions

What does construction waste cost to dispose of in Amsterdam?

Free up to 1 m³ per month at a Recycling Point. Above that: ~€40-80 per extra m³, or rent a debris container (€100-250/week for a small one).

Can a debris container stand on the street?

Yes, with permit. Apply via City of Amsterdam, ~€50-100 per week and takes 1-2 weeks. Without permit: heavy fine.

What if I suspect asbestos in it?

STOP. Asbestos must be removed by a certified asbestos-removal company — never yourself. Fine for violation: €5000+. City of Amsterdam has a list of certified companies.

Can I just go to any Recycling Point?

All 6 accept construction waste. Busiest is Henk Sneevlietweg (Zuid). Faradayweg (Nieuw-West) and Rozenburglaan (Noord) are quieter.
