My energy supplier went bankrupt — what happens now and what should I do?

DIRECT ANSWER

You will NEVER lose power. A backstop supplier takes over automatically and you keep all consumption rights. We map the steps.

Under the Energy Act 2024 + the backstop rules for small users, on supplier bankruptcy a backstop supplier is assigned by ACM within hours. Supply continues uninterrupted; within 6 weeks you receive a new contract at model tariff. What to do:

  1. don't rush
  2. check email/post for backstop supplier name
  3. verify your choiceyou do NOT have to stay with the backstop and can switch to any supplier without penalty
  4. demand refund of any overpaid advances from the bankrupt supplier (file claim with the trustee). Accumulated net-metering and feed-in credit transfer reasonably — but dispute where needed.
