The 2023 energy price cap — how did it work and what remains?
The price cap set a maximum tariff on a fixed annual consumption in 2023. It ended 1 January 2024 — but settlement disputes are still being resolved.
The price cap (Temporary 2023 energy cost relief scheme) applied to a fixed annual consumption (2,900 kWh electricity, 1,200 m³ gas, 37 GJ heat) below which a maximum tariff applied (40 c/kWh, €1.45/m³). Above the cap the normal supplier rate applied. Settled per bill and lapsed on 1 January 2024. Still ongoing: (1) 2023 statements with incorrect settlement — right to revision; (2) households that received TEK support — separate procedure; (3) SMEs that received TTM — separate settlement. For breaches or errors: Geschillencommissie + ACM if needed.
