FFCheck publishes information to help consumers in the Netherlands navigate everyday government, banking, and consumer-protection situations. It is not legal, financial, medical, or professional advice, and it does not create any advisor-client relationship between you and FFCheck. Read this disclaimer before relying on anything you find here.
Not affiliated with the Dutch government
FFCheck is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operating on behalf of the Dutch government (Rijksoverheid), any ministry, any municipality (including the Gemeente Amsterdam), the Belastingdienst, UWV, the Politie, the Gemeentelijke Gezondheidsdienst (GGD), or any other Dutch public-sector body. References to those institutions on this site are for informational purposes (telling you who to contact for what); they do not imply endorsement or partnership in either direction.
Official Dutch government information lives at rijksoverheid.nl and the institution-specific sites we link to throughout. When in doubt, trust them over us.
Information vs. legal advice — the distinction matters
Everything we publish is general-purpose context written for a non-expert audience. It is not tailored to your specific situation, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional — a lawyer (advocaat), tax adviser (belastingadviseur), notary, doctor, or licensed financial planner. If your situation involves significant consequences (a contract dispute, a tax penalty, a medical decision, a fraud claim above your bank's coverage threshold, a deportation risk), consult a professional. For free or low-cost help: Het Juridisch Loket (juridischloket.nl), Sociaal Raadslieden via your gemeente, or the Fraudehelpdesk for scam-related questions.
General information only
Every article, scenario, scam-checker result, and citizen report on ffcheck.nl is informational. We try to be accurate, current, and useful — but the world changes, regulations change, and individual situations vary. Always verify against the official source (UWV, Belastingdienst, your municipality, your bank, the Politie, etc.) before making a decision with real consequences.
No guarantees
We make no warranty, express or implied, that any information on this site is complete, accurate, current, or fit for any particular purpose. The site is provided "as is."
Citizen reports (Wat Nu?)
Reports on the Wat Nu? map are submitted by anonymous users. We do not verify them. They are signals, not facts. Treat them as you would any anonymous tip — useful as a hint, not as a basis for decisions. Confirm / dispute buttons let the community add weight to or against a report; they do not constitute editorial endorsement.
External links
We link to government, bank, and consumer-protection websites. We have no control over the content of external sites and accept no responsibility for what they publish, do, or change.
Scam-checker (Is Dit Veilig?)
Verdicts from our scam-checker are heuristic. A "safe" verdict does not mean the URL, phone number, or email is guaranteed legitimate — only that none of our automated checks flagged it. A "phishing" verdict does not mean the entity behind the URL is criminally liable — only that the technical or content patterns match known scam typologies. Use your judgment.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Dutch law, FFCheck and its operators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of this site, including (without limitation): financial loss from acting on incorrect information, reliance on outdated regulatory citations, or decisions made based on citizen reports.
Sources and references
Every scenario, scam-type article, and Bij Wie? entry on this site cites its sources. Where we reference a regulation, deadline, phone number, or amount, we link to the primary source (UWV, Belastingdienst, your gemeente, NOS, Opgelicht?!, the Politie, Fraudehelpdesk, KNMI, GVB, CMSA, etc.). Where data is older than 12 months, we re-verify it; where it's older than 24 months, we mark the page as stale.
Our complete sourcing methodology is documented on the Editorial page.
Update timestamps
Every legal page on this site shows a "Last updated" date at the top. Every Bij Wie? scenario and Is Dit Veilig? scam-type article shows the same. If a date is older than you expect for the question you're trying to answer, treat the page as a starting point and verify with the official source before acting.
Editorial process
Our editorial standards, sourcing methodology, and update cadence are described on our Editorial page. If you spot an error, we want to know — email redactie@ffcheck.nl.
Privacy and cookies
How we handle personal data and cookies is covered in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. Both are GDPR-compliant and explicit about what we collect (very little), what we don't collect (most things), and your rights.
Governing law
This disclaimer is governed by Dutch law. Disputes that cannot be resolved by direct contact will be submitted to the competent court of Amsterdam.
