Someone calls asking for DigiD code — Tax Office, municipality or scam?
ALWAYS scam. Tax Office, municipality, bank, government NEVER ask for your DigiD code, password or SMS token by phone. Hang up immediately.
Extremely common scam — works via extortion or "helping" by phone. Scenarios: (a) "Tax Office — there's a refund, give SMS code"; (b) "Police — your bank hacked, verify DigiD"; (c) "Municipality — extra levy threatens, log in via this link"; (d) "Microsoft/Apple — your computer hacked, support via DigiD". TRUTH: NO legitimate body asks DigiD by phone, SMS or email. DigiD is used only via your own browser/app on a website you visited. What to do:
- Hang up without responding
- Call back yourself via official (Tax Office 0800-0543, DigiD helpdesk 088-1236555)
- Already complied?CHANGE DigiD password at digid.nl, call DigiD helpdesk, file police report (0900-8844 or online), report Fraudehelpdesk
- Call your bankreverse transactions if still possible
- Block DigiD temporarily via DigiD app on doubt. For elderly and young: scam peaks — preventive family talk helps.
