The Tax Office never sends SMS with payment links. Always scam. 4 verification steps + report route.

The Tax Office sends some SMS types — but NEVER with a payment link. Known real ones: filing confirmation (no link), general filing reminder (no link). Any SMS with "click to pay your assessment" or "your refund is ready — click here" is scam. Verification:

  1. Open MijnBelastingdienst via your own browser (not via SMS link)
  2. Check for outstanding assessment or refund
  3. On doubt call BelastingTelefoon 0800-0543
  4. Forward SMS screenshot to 7726 (free spam reporting) and report at fraudehelpdesk.nl. Already clicked? Don't log in. Did they get your DigiD? Immediately change password + call DigiD helpdesk + file police report.
