Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) — healthcare oversight
Healthcare regulator. Complaints about care providers + medical data violations often run parallel to AP.
The Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) oversees the quality and safety of healthcare and youth care in the Netherlands. Privacy overlap: medical record inaccurate or incomplete, unauthorised access to record by colleagues, data breach at care provider, refusal to provide access to record (Dutch Civil Code Art. 7:456), systemic sloppy handling of patient data. What does IGJ do? (1) Investigate care provider. (2) Measures — warning, order, cease-and-desist, or refer to Public Prosecutor. (3) Follow up on incident reports. When parallel to AP? On data aspect: AP for GDPR (fine, general-practice enforcement). IGJ for healthcare quality + disciplinary implications. How? Online via igj.nl reporting form or call 088-120 50 00. Speed: acknowledgement within 5 days, investigation can take months. For serious misconduct: also report to Healthcare Disciplinary Tribunal (for BIG-registered providers).
