Tax Office bailiff at the door — what do I do?
Don't panic. Request ID + writ. Then: request deferral + payment plan. Respect seizure-free minimum.
When Tax Office bailiff arrives: (1) Request ID (official photo card) + copy of writ — without these no valid execution; (2) Common purpose: payment pressure, household inventory (catalogue for possible attachment), or actual attachment of cash or valuables; (3) You can then: (a) pay on the spot (full — no further steps); (b) hand over deferral request (bailiff may TAKE it for handling by Collector); (c) propose payment plan via bailiff; (4) Household attachment: bailiff first makes list, executive sale only after 4-6 weeks — time to settle; (5) Car attachment: only if car worth ~€500-€1,000 non-essential; first car for work usually exempt; (6) No TV, fridge or bed attachment — essential household goods exempt. DO NOT: (a) refuse bailiff entry without reason — can lead to forced entry with police; (b) hide or transfer goods — criminal as withdrawal from attachment (Sr 198). Tip: call DEBT ASSISTANCE same day (municipal, free).
