Tax Office bailiff at the door — what do I do?

DIRECT ANSWER

Don't panic. Request ID + writ. Then: request deferral + payment plan. Respect seizure-free minimum.

When Tax Office bailiff arrives:

  1. Request ID (official photo card) + copy of writwithout these no valid execution
  2. Common purposepayment pressure, household inventory (catalogue for possible attachment), or actual attachment of cash or valuables
  3. You can then: (a) pay on the spot (fullno further steps); (b) hand over deferral request (bailiff may TAKE it for handling by Collector); (c) propose payment plan via bailiff
  4. Household attachmentbailiff first makes list, executive sale only after 4-6 weeks — time to settle
  5. Car attachmentonly if car worth ~€500-€1,000 non-essential; first car for work usually exempt
  6. No TV, fridge or bed attachmentessential household goods exempt. DO NOT: (a) refuse bailiff entry without reason — can lead to forced entry with police; (b) hide or transfer goods — criminal as withdrawal from attachment (Sr 198).
