Toeslagen (healthcare, rent, childcare, child-budget) are paid monthly upfront based on your estimated total income. Final settlement occurs after the tax year, based on actual income return. Risks:
- income rise > 10% can trigger final clawback up to 1 year back
- not reporting changes (cohabiting, job change, move) triggers recovery + penalty
- since the Toeslagen scandal (2018-2020) a safety-net scheme exists for unfair clawbacks — check eligibility. Objection within 6 weeks of date stamp (AWIR + Awb). During objection: separately request collection halt.
