Subsidised legal aid (toevoeging) — when can you get a social-rate lawyer?

Income < €33,000 single / €46,400 with partner: right to subsidised lawyer. Co-pay €144-€986. For tax cases: useful above €5,000.

TOEVOEGING (1993 Legal Aid Act) gives low-income people a subsidised lawyer. 2026 conditions: (1) Income under threshold (€33,000 single, €46,400 with partner); (2) Assets under threshold (€33,000 single, €66,000 partner — excluding own home up to WOZ limit); (3) Case legally relevant (no obviously hopeless case). 2026 co-pay: €144 (low income + < €30k case) to €986 (highest). For TAX cases useful with: assessments > €5,000, complex tax law (BV structure, international), criminal fault penalty (ECHR art. 6 absolute requirements). Apply via lawyer affiliated with RvR (Legal Aid Council). Free lawyer choice. Lawyer complaint: Dean at Bar. For consumer tax (Toeslagen scandal, small objections): Juridisch Loket + self-do often enough; toevoeging-lawyer pays off on complex cases.
