An old photo of me lingers in Google cache — what now?
First remove original + then Google "Outdated Content Removal" tool. Cache disappears in 1-7 days.
Sometimes a photo is removed from the original website, but Google keeps showing it due to cache. Two possible states: (a) Original still online → first remove that (see photo-online-protocol). (b) Original is gone, only cache + thumbnail remain → Google's "Outdated Content Removal" tool. Google "Outdated Content Removal": via search.google.com/search-console/remove-outdated-content. No account needed. Input: the URL you want updated. Google revisits the URL, sees content is gone, and removes within 1-7 days from search results + cache. Doesn't work? (1) Page still renders content (only visually hidden) — ask site for robots.txt / noindex meta tag + content removal. (2) "Outdated" interpreted by Google as "we're showing current content, no update" — therefore only for real removal. For name search results: right-to-be-forgotten separately (Costeja route) — public interest balance. On thumbnail image search: even after original removal Google Images thumbnail often lingers weeks — use same tool with image URL.
