How to dispose of a TV in Amsterdam
Drop off your old TV for free at a Wecycle point or at the shop where you buy a new one (mandatory 1-for-1 take-back). CRT TVs (old tube models) contain lead — Recycling Point or Wecycle only, never in regular waste.

Do / Do not
- Sign out of your smart TV account before delivery (Netflix, accounts)
- CRT TV? Two people to lift — tube models weigh 30-50 kg
- Still works? €30-100 on Marktplaats for modern flat screen
- Never break a CRT TV to fit in a bin — contains lead and phosphor
- Do not put on the street — counts as illegal dumping, €100+ fine
- Do not open the back yourself — capacitors retain high voltage
Or do something better
Most bulk waste still has life. Give or sell before throwing.

Frequently asked questions
What do I do with an old tube TV (CRT)?
To the Recycling Point or a large Wecycle location. Not all Wecycle points accept CRTs — call ahead. Never in bulk waste or container.
Can I put my TV on the street on bulk-waste day?
Officially yes, but Wecycle or retailer is much better — there it is recycled properly. Bulk-waste TVs often end up in the incinerator.
Should the TV be cleared out?
Sign out of accounts (Netflix etc.) and factory reset. For security: unplug at least 1 hour so capacitors discharge.
Drop-off at Coolblue also free?
Yes, at any Coolblue branch in Amsterdam. No receipt or purchase proof needed.
